Sunday Tour (max. 30 people)

DKK 850.00
Sold Out

The Sunday tour is about how we live in Denmark and particularly in Copenhagen. The tour will give you examples of how two different styles of governance can function, one on a national scale and one on a community scale. We will also learn how an ugly building for waste handling can be turned into a great leisure area.

First stop is at the Danish Parliament called Christiansborg. The guided tour will give us an insight into Christiansborg as a workplace for the Members of Parliament and as the centre of democracy and legislative power in Denmark. The guides will tell us about the dramatic and interesting history of Christiansborg Palace and the development of Danish democracy.

The second stop is Amager Bakke, one of the landmarks in Copenhagen. The building houses a waste-to-energy plant. Waste that cannot be recycled is used at Amager Bakke to produce electricity and district heating for homes and companies in the Danish capital. We will not visit the plant. Instead, the tour will take us to the top of Amager Bakke by the elevator, where we will learn about the leisure side of the entire building: the architecture, the vision, sustainability, ski slope and the thoughts behind, all while we enjoy the view over Copenhagen and the ocean.

The third stop is lunch at Spiseloppen at Christiania. Spiseloppen has existed since 1983 and is run as a collective. The restaurant is structured as an association and therefore has no individual owners.

The fourth and final stop is a guided tour with local guides around Christiania. Christiania was founded in 1971 when a group of hippies, artists and activists cut a hole in the fence of the military barracks in Bådmandsgade and declared the area a sanctuary, independent of Danish laws and regulations. On April 6, 2024, the residents of Christiania took a significant step by digging up the cobblestones on “Pusher Street”. This action was a symbolic gesture to mark the end of the open drug market in the area. Today, many of the original settlers still live in the collectively controlled sanctuary, and the area has a distinct 70s feel. Many of the people who live in Christiania have built their homes themselves, giving the area an extremely interesting architectural feel. Christiania has a range of eco-restaurants, workshops, galleries and music venues offering all kinds of cultural experiences.

The Danish Parliament

Before entering Christiansborg, all visitors will be requested to go through a security check at the Visitors' Entrance, which is located beneath the main staircase in Rigsdagsgården. For security reasons, searches similar to those used in airports will be conducted upon entry. As a rule, security checks should only take a few minutes, but waiting time may occur during peak periods. Visitors are therefore requested to arrive 15 minutes before their appointed time.

Airport Transfer During the Tour

It is possible to be dropped off at the airport during lunch or the tour og Christiania in case you have an early flight. However, it is not possible to get a deduction in the tour fee as there are still some costs involved.
